Thinking about taking your dog on holiday this year? Look no further than Newquay!

Newquay is mostly famed for its surfing culture – but did you know it’s also the perfect destination for a dog-friendly holiday? Newquay boasts plenty of year-round dog-friendly beaches and delicious doggie eateries that are guaranteed to set tails wagging…

Waggy-Tailed Beach Walkies

Dogs are allowed on nearly all of Newquay’s glorious beaches all year round. You can take a stroll down the Gannel whilst your four-legged friends splash around in the river Estuary or hit the waves with your sandy pup on the famed Fistral beach. The possibilities are truly endless!

Crantock Beach is a National Trust-owned beach that welcomes four-legged friends all year round. With picturesque golden sands, fascinating sand dunes and shimmering turquoise waters, we guarantee your pup will have a truly fantastic day out. But if your dog still isn’t worn out at the end of a swift swim, there are plenty of walks nearby along the Gannel and the South-West Coast Path.

Fistral Beach is Newquay’s most famous beach thanks to its great surf. This huge stretch of golden sand is also ideal for those early morning strolls with your faithful companion. Whether your pup is a strong swimmer or prefers to keep their paws dry, your pooch will have the time of their life on this pawsome coastal walk.

Little Fistral Beach is Fistral’s unofficial, less touristy younger sibling. This small sand and rock beach is backed by steep cliffs and can only be accessed during low tide. Little Fistral offers a much quieter walk for your pooch – your dog will love climbing on the craggy rocks and playing in the mystical waters at their own pace.

Harbour Beach is situated in the centre of Newquay. Your faithful companion will love exploring this small sandy beach and watching the boats arrive with their daily catches of fish. This well-known sun trap is ideal for a spot of sunbathing, whilst your dog enjoys all the sights and smells of the working harbour.

Towan Beach is a popular choice for pups who love to paddle in the Atlantic Ocean. It is sheltered by the harbour on one side and features ‘the island’ rock on the other and is great for families and four-legged friends alike. At low tide, you can walk all the way to Great Western Beach; but at high tide, it’s more of a quaint cove.

Great Western Beach is another popular dog-friendly choice, featuring a sheltered stretch of sand backed by towering Cornish cliffs. Pups can exercise and stretch their logs on the wide beach during low tide or dip their paws in the Atlantic during high tide. A great choice for families and four-legged friends.

Watergate Bay is slightly out of Newquay, boasting two miles of glorious golden Cornish sands. Surfers and kite surfers flock to Watergate due to its wind exposure, whilst bustling beachgoers and their playful pups come to relax and explore. This picturesque playground is decorated with fascinating rock pools and ample sunbathing spots.

Holywell Bay’s large expanse of soft golden sand provides the perfect base for a dog-friendly day out. The beach is backed by sand dunes and is steeped in history – at low tide, Holywell Cave and its calcium deposits can be seen, as well as the shipwreck of an old Argentinian vessel just offshore. A fascinating and fun four-legged haven.

Four-Legged Food Choices

Your faithful companions are welcome to accompany you at many of Newquay pubs, cafés, bars, and restaurants. Ideal for some tasty pub grub and delicious doggie treats after a long walk along the Cornish sands!

Rick Stein is situated on Fistral Beach, providing a variety of speciality seafood. The restaurant is famed for its fish and chips, but also offers a full menu including beach bites, curries, and noodles. A terrific treat for tired pooches.

The Bowgie Inn in Crantock welcomes four-legged friends to dine in their garden area. Their menu showcases Cornwall wherever possible, as well as featuring traditional pub favourites. Sit out and take in the stunning views of Crantock with your dog whilst enjoying a real ale and hearty pub food.

The Beach Hut at Watergate Bay welcomes sandy shoes and salty dogs alike. Tuck into a healthy breakfast, light bite lunch or delicious dinner, whilst your dog plays on the beach. It’s also a great spot to watch the sunset.

The Cornishman provides the perfect pitstop after a waggy-tailed walk along Crantock Beach. This traditional Cornish pub serves local real ale and hearty food, such as scampi, steak, and burgers. The beer garden is a real suntrap, allowing your pup to doze in the sun whilst you enjoy a good beer.

Sea Spray is a friendly family-run café next to Fistral Beach. They are very dog-friendly and cater for pooches and people alike. They have an amazing breakfast and light lunch menu – ideal for refuelling after a blustering beach walk with your four-legged friend.
